DIY: Update and Repurpose Children’s Picnic Table

We’ve all done it. Reading a magazine, pinning away on pinterest or watching television; a really incredible “Why didn’t I think of that idea?” you’ve ran across.

Here's my mom’s great idea that Tbird loves:

My parents neighbors gave us their old weathered and faded Fisher Price picnic table. It looked like this one, but with about 10 years of wear and tear and sun damage on it.

My mom being the creative mind she is, took that sucker cleaned it up and spray painted to match our furniture on our back deck. And she didn’t just spray it to make it look astatically  better-- she made it more functional, too!

On top, where kids often play, eat and color, mom took chalk board paint and made the surface even more fun for Timothy! She then went to one of our favorite places, Garden Ridge, and bought a “mini umbrella” for it. It turned out so well. And was so easy to do for her.

She did the project at her house, so I do not have step-by-step pictures, but I think it is a pretty self-explanatory tutorial.

1.       Take one old weathered children’s picnic table

2.       Take spray paint and make it look new again

3.       Cover top with chalk board paint

4.       Find a mini umbrella for those sunny and/or rainy days

Hours of fun for your little one!
